Details

Wolf's 22 LR is manufactured by the famed SK cartridge producer in Schoenebeck, Germany. Schoenbeck has been producing munitions since 1829 under the start of Louis Sellier and Nicolaus Bellot and was acquired by Lapua in 1992. Lapua GmbH now makes the worlds greatest 22 LR ammunition. Sport shooters, bi-athletes, and hunters have been putting their trust in cartridges manufactured at the Schoenebeck factory which is known for its world class reliability, precision, and perfect quality.

This Wolf 22 LR branded ammunition has match grade quality to ensure that you're spot on target. Renowned shooter, John Bagakis has used Wolf 22 LR ammo to help him win many rimfire matches including the 2010 Ruger Rimfire World Championship.

Muzzle Velocity: 1050 fps

Video Transcript:

If you've heard of Wolf Performance Ammunition before, then you probably associate it with budget-priced, steel-cased pistol and rifle ammo from Russia. While that's usually the case, the Wolf label also includes some premium rimfire ammo, like this 22 long rifle target match load.

Unlike the Wolf center fire offerings, this 22 ammo is brass-cased and made in Germany. It features a plain lead round-nose bullet. And comes packaged in small boxes of 50 rounds each. The bulk pack contains 10 of these smaller boxes, for a total of 500 cartridges.

Most rimfire ammo uses some kind of protective lubricant on the bullet, usually a type of wax. Wolf Target Match, on the other hand, has a thin coat of some kind of oil on the bullet. This makes the ammo a little slippery and can make it slightly more difficult to load magazines, depending on how stiff the magazine's springs are.

But aside from this minor complaint, this ammo performed well above expectations. We fired a few hundred rounds through six different firearms, three pistols and three rifles. Reliability was exceptional, with no misfires, light primer strikes, or feeding and ejection failures in any of the test guns.

As impressive as the reliability was, the place this ammo really shines is in the accuracy department. We shot a 10-round group at 50 yards, using a Ruger 10/22 target rifle, on a bipod, with a fixed four power scope. With very little effort, we were able to get a group that measured just a hair over one inch.

For comparison, this is even better than the group we shot with the same rifle, using the respected CCI Mini-Mag ammo. There are plenty of less expensive .22 loads out there. But if accuracy is what you're going for, then this Wolf Target Match is one of the best factory rimfire loads available.

Comments

Tom Jones ( Tue, 16 Apr 2013 14:13:32 +0000 ) : $180 for a box of 500 rounds? This is absolutely outrageous! When will it end? A week ago it was $100 and that was still 3X what is should be.
Steve Garrigan ( Tue, 16 Apr 2013 22:45:03 +0000 ) : $179.00 for a $30.00 brick of.22's, you know where you can shove them!
Mike Metzroth ( Thu, 13 Jun 2013 18:09:45 +0000 ) : 35 cents a round for 22LR?
Jack Davis ( Thu, 13 Jun 2013 19:56:22 +0000 ) : Greed?
Nathan Paone ( Fri, 14 Jun 2013 02:57:50 +0000 ) : 10 years ago it cost 1 penny per round for.22 LR, last year it cost 5 cents per round. Tell me this 30 cent ( 600%) increase since the beginning of last December directly reflects your cost! I don't think so! Along with the right to bear arms, is the right to shoot them, but now shooting is only for the rich? Consider your site boycotted! Supply and demand is NO excuse!
Jack Davis ( Fri, 14 Jun 2013 05:25:37 +0000 ) : It's greed, Nathan, as you know. I don't expect either of our statements will be here tomorrow. I've used the same "dirty" word--greed--in response to other comments, all of which echoed your sentiments, NONE of which remained visible for long.

Never tried Wolf since the local stores don't stock it (this is before the 22 ammo "shortage") only thing the rifle was happy with was high velocity Mini Mags. This ammo is just as accurate. 3 rounds in the same hole at 50 yds all day long. (Posted on 7/13/14)

Shipping was fast and packing was superior compared to online competitors. The price is still high but seems to be the going rate for a brick of match. I paired the 40 grain Wolf Match with a Savage FV-SR, Nikon 3-9X40mm EFR scope and AAC Pilot II suppressor. I've only shot 100 rounds but the combination produces sub MOA groups out to 50 yards and MOA groups out to 100 yards off a bench rest. As noted in the product video, the Wolf 22LR Match casings are lubricated and slick when loading magazines but the superior repeatable accuracy makes slippery rounds easy to forgive. With a muzzle velocity of 1050 fps and a suppressor, I predict a quiet yet productive squirrel season this Fall. (Posted on 7/8/14)

Thanks for finding some of this to offer; almost none available elsewhere, pricey if at all.
This stuff overall is as good as standard velocity target grade ammo gets in my pistols.
My Mossberg M44USd rifle LOVES it; sub 1 inch at 50 yds. (usually 1 ragged hole!)
Prompt service, reasonable shipping, quick delivery. Now, If the price improves... (Posted on 7/3/14)

I have a Marlin 25n that has lots of work done on it an a $400 scope. I shoot Eley Tenex and Feneral Ultra Match. 50 yard groups on a good day, .070 5 shots. The 25n shoots all ammo very well. I found some Wolfe Match Target at a local pawn shop. I can't tell the difference between the Wolf, Eley, or Federal. I will load my ten round mag at random and shoot 5 shots groups, all group the same.

Wolf will be on my list as a top 3. I have not shot enough to no if I will have flyers with the Wolf.

I bought 2000 rounds here for my wife and I for an Appleseed shoot. I typically shoot Blazer ammo at the range but I figured why not step up a bit for the Appleseed shoot... since it's all about accuracy. Well I did get my Marksman patch on the second day, I really do think this ammo helped. Great suff at a reasonable price, love it!

A local gun club has an infromal bench rest 22LR shoot and Wolf match is used by most of the top shooters. My Savage mark II shoots it better than anything else I've tried out of about 10 different brands of 22 ammo including 3 other match loads. Good stuff, good price, enough said. Also Lucky Gunner's service was very good. (Posted on 6/8/12)

Got to say I was very impressed with the ammo using my Ruger 10-22, in fact shot very tight groups consistently in all my 22 rifles I have used this ammo with. Got to say the price was right compared to what my local shops were selling the same 500 round box for. (Posted on 4/18/12)

I have a Ruger 10-22 that I modified with a Butler Creek camo Stock and camo heavy barrel with a match chamber, I changed the trigger to a Kidd 2 stage adjustable that now breaks at @4-6 ounces crisp. I also added the lever assist for the mag release.
This ammo will shoot groups measuring .311center to center @ 50yds. I haven't had enough time or ammo, (until now) to really work it out but I expect even better groups, if I do my part.
It feeds reliably and I have had no failure to feed issues.
The great service and fast shipping are a great asset, this company really does seek to please its customers and I fully intend to check here first for future purchases. (Posted on 2/6/12)

I get consistent 1" or better groups at 50 yards with a scoped Ruger 10/22T heavy barrel target model, sometimes 1/2" for three shots if the wind is calm, the light is just right, and I'm having a really good day.

This ammunition is actually manufactured by Lapua in their new German plant. Yes, Lapua, from Finland, that makes some of the very best target ammunition in the world. That Lapua. This is Lapua's .22 LR standard velocity solid round in Wolf brand packaging.

It's almost as good as the stuff Wolf sells as "Match Extra" (that's Lapua's .22 LR match ammo) but that's very hard to find in the US right now. (Posted on 5/7/11)
