Details
Speer Gold Dot Ammunition is loaded with bonded core bullets and designed for critical defense needs.
Bonding the jacket to the core means the elimination of core-jacket separation and superior weight retention making it more effective than traditional hollow-point bullets in the event that the bullet encounters bone or heavy clothing upon entry.
This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable nickel-plated brass cases.

I am far from being an ammunition connoisseur. In my untrained opinion the ammunition is typically either good or bad depending on whether or not it feeds through weapon without incident. I have shot around 100rnds of the 40 S&W Speer Gold Dolt (180gr JHP) through a Springfield Armory XDM compact (3.8) using both the extended magazine and the stock/flush magazine. I have experienced no issues. That probably isn't a large enough sample to say that this is flawless ammunition, but it seems to be consistent to say the least.Quality Performance Value
I feel that the 180gr is easier to shoot accurately compared to the lighter bullets, but that may be due to the shorter barrel on the XDM compact (like I said, I'm not an expert). I have seen no noticeable difference in the accuracy of one brands 180gr compared to another.
For true ballistic performance I rely heavily on the reviews of experts, and when ballistic tests prove that the ammunition can perform to a standard set by law enforcement experts I tend to believe that those experts know what they are talking about. Simply put, if people who put their life on the line trust a certain ammunition to defend their own life and the lives of others around them...that's good enough for me. Speer Gold Dot seems to be widely accepted as a premium law enforcement ammunition (especially in 40 S&W) much as Federal Premium HST so I tend to stick to these for personal defense.
When all else fails...just ask a cop. (Posted on 6/19/13) - This is the ammo to have Review by cremona

I spent hours and hours researching the BEST defense ammo for my H&K .40 S&W. After doing my homework, I landed on this Speer Gold Dot LE. It is hard to find but worth the effort if you can get it. Lucky Gunner was fast and top notch to purchase from. Highly recommend but kind of hate to because by doing so, I'll probably be making it harder on myself to get more of this! I switched and upgraded to Speer Gold Dot for my Personal Protection Ammo. Great accuracy and very consistent. I did my research and Gold Dot is at the top of the list for reliability and effectiveness. I am very glad I can get the 50 round box at a great price from LuckyGunner.com Thanks again. If you "carry", you need to pick up a few boxes and see for yourself. (Posted on 10/31/12)Performance Value Quality
