Outsmarting the turkey is not possible. It is too smart, and you are pursuing it in its natural element. Fortunately, you have a 10 Gauge shotgun, which means you can overpower the turkey with Winchester Double X ammunition.

This shell is a leviathan. At 3-1/2”, its voluminous enough to contain 2 ounces of shot and the powder it needs to fire them off at 1,300 fps velocity. Counted as one force, the shot column’s muzzle energy equals approximately 3,250 ft lbs – more than most 7mm Remington Magnum rifle cartridges.

A Double X shell is doubly designed to focus as much of its energy into as narrow an area as possible. Its #5 shot pellets (perfect size for turkey) are plated in copper, which protects them against recoil’s flattening forces in the barrel (and also helps them press deeper into the bird). Moreover, those shot pellets are suspended in Grex, which soaks up recoil that might otherwise have misshapen the shot.

You’re really evening the odds when you order the whole case of Double X. You’ll have enough to pattern your shotgun to perfection, and not think twice about firing follow-up shots (not that a deadeye like you ever needs them).
