You may already be familiar with the frangible bullet, which smashes itself to bits upon impact with a hard surface. This round’s special pre-fragmented bullet operates on a similar principle. But instead of being made of a sintered, homogenous mass, the pre-frag comprises three separate components:
1. A traditional copper jacket, filled with
2. #12 lead shot, capped with
3. A polymer ball
The ball (which also promotes smooth semi-automatic feeding) smashes into the underlying “shot core” on impact. This bursts the bullet apart, in which state it rapidly (A) transfers its considerable striking power to the threat, whilst (B) shedding momentum that might have caused a sturdier bullet to pierce the threat altogether.
