CCI loads this round with 95 grains (~1/5 ounces) of #8 bismuth shot (made by Hevi, a USA company that specializes in making bismuth shot). Bismuth is only about 85% as dense as lead. But it is also around 18% more dense than steel, so it hits harder than the more common type of nontoxic shot pellet.
Even this ammo’s primers are lead-free. They are Federal Catalysts, which burn hot to deliver the 1,300 fps muzzle velocity that gives the entire shot column a collective muzzle energy of 356 ft lbs. That’s not a lot for the 10mm, but it’s more than enough for a rattlesnake.
This aluminum-cased shotshell ammo is (A) not reloadable, and (B) unsafe in firearms with ported barrels and/or compensators.
