This round is loaded with a standard 1-1/8 ounce column of #7.5 shot. Steel shot, to be precise, which is nontoxic and legal for hunting wherever lead has been banned. The density of steel is significantly lower than that of lead (8 g/cc vs. 11 g/cc), but this shell has a secret weapon to compensate for that. Its 1,400 fps muzzle velocity is much faster than usual, so its steel shot can still fly far and hit hard!

This reliable ammo delivers very consistent patterns. Rigid steel will not deform under pressure, and Federal takes care to forge highly spherical and aerodynamic shot pellets. The Minnesotan company’s primers and powder produce low amounts of fouling, and their low-brass hulls make fine reloading components.
