This 2-3/4” shell has a 3 dram equivalent: the product of its lighter 1 ounce column and middle-of-the-road 1,250 fps muzzle velocity. That and a high-quality hinged wad will spare you from finding yourself on the wrong side of heavy recoil.
The #8 shot isn’t entirely made out of lead. There is also antimony: another heavy metal that you wouldn’t want in your breakfast cereal, which hardens the shot pellets to ensure they stay rounder, smoother, and closer together downrange.
