In his novel The BFG, Roald Dahl coined the word “trogglehumper.” It is described as a “wopsy grub switcher,” but in more sensible speak, it is an absolute nightmare.

This 12 Gauge shotgun shell, by Federal Premium? It is a trogglehumper to deer, boar, and all manners of predators.

This shell is loaded with buckshot; #1 buck, which is two sizes down from the 00 buck you usually see in buckshot ammo (0.30”, as opposed to 0.33”). Its smaller size is why #1 buck strikes with relatively less pep while it is moving at the same velocity. It is also why this shell packs 16 pellets as opposed to only eight or nine, which equates to the potential more wound channels and the more numerous pattern that excels in densely wooded environments (where twigs and branches are likely to intercept shot).

Rounder buckshot pellets are superior for hunting large game. They are more aerodynamic, and pattern tighter, hit with greater force, and enter deeper into their target because of it. That’s why this shell’s shot is plated in copper, and buffered – two features to ensure each pellet charges out of the barrel with as much of its sphericity intact, and remains more spherical after slamming into its target.
