It is possible that Federal’s factory foreman one day told his staff to “get the lead out” and they took him literally. It is far more likely that Federal designed this BallistiClean 12 Gauge shotshell to protect its owner against injury while they’re shooting steel targets.

This shell is loaded with 27 pellets of #4 buckshot. While traditionally implemented for hunting predators and deer at close range, the smallest of the buckshot sizes also works extremely well for home defense when you would like both a dense pattern and a lower chance of blasting through multiple walls if you miss.

But this #4 buckshot is special, because it is frangible. As it is made of compressed metal powder instead of solid lead, it shatters apart into dust and crumbles when it connects with something hard. This pretty much makes a harmful ricochet while training on steel targets impossible, and further makes penetration of several walls even less likely during home defense.

This shell’s lead-free #4 buck also keeps the air a lot cleaner while you’re shooting indoors, something your lungs are bound to appreciate if you train quite a lot. Federal’s propellant and primer both burn up very clean, and their well made hull will cycle in a shotgun rather than get pinched within it to render it jammed.
