Nine pellets of shot would be completely normal for a 00 buckshot shell of this length. But because it is loaded with nine pellets of #1 buck – one piece of which is 91% as wide as a double-aught, and only 75% as heavy – this shell does a couple of interesting things. First, lower recoil, simply because its 1,250 fps muzzle velocity doesn’t move as much mass. Second, reduced chance of over-penetration. The #1 buck pellet only has about 75% as much striking energy at the muzzle as a double-aught would, and its lighter weight also grants it less of the momentum that could carry it clear through the target after impact. That can help you a great deal if you ever fire this ammo in your home and want as little chance of striking an innocent bystander as possible.*
*Lest you believe otherwise, nothing can eliminate that risk. Know your target and what lies beyond it, always.
