Steel is the best known nontoxic shot pellet for waterfowl hunting, but it’s not the only one – or the best, for that matter. This 12 Gauge shotshell from Kent’s Bismuth Waterfowl line of ammunition is quite naturally loaded with #4 bismuth shot. Bismuth is every bit as good for the environment, completely nonmagnetic, and a whopping 24 percent denser than steel!

Bismuth’s superior density gives it a lot of advantages over steel. That’s because it carries more momentum, and therefore retains more velocity downrange, strikes its target with greater energy, and penetrates soft tissue to a significantly greater depth. It’s also more resistant to wind drift, so a strong gust won’t cost you a big mallard. Bismuth’s still less dense than lead, however, which is why Kent compensates by giving this shell a fast 1,450 fps muzzle velocity.

This shell’s High-Performance Base Wad delivers an efficient pattern, promotes more reliable cycling in a semi-auto, won’t let hard bismuth scratch the barrel, and is compatible with any choke tube. It’s all tied together with Kent’s reliable CX2000 primer and double base powder which helps reduce felt recoil.
