Eley is back in black! This 22 LR cartridge looks pretty stark with its black case and black bullet, but those aren’t just cosmetic features. The case is finished with black oxide, which Eley says creates more friction to ensure it seats the bullet with the optimal amount of tension. The bullet is coated with hydrocarbon lubricant, which reduces friction and fouling in the bore without making it feel greasy to the touch.

At 38 grains this round’s bullet offers an accelerated 1,250 fps muzzle velocity. Upon breaking the sound barrier it establishes a flat trajectory that’s just as good for sniping cans as it is undoing rogue squirrels. This bullet’s nose cavity enables it to expand within squirrel-type targets to kill ‘em even deader.

Eley’s High Velocity line of ammunition features the old British manufacturer’s dry priming system. Rather than insert wet priming compound into the case, they place it in dry (along with a drop of water) to promote more consistent ignition. This round is of course non-corrosive, with clean burning propellant that complements its clean shooting bullet quite nicely.
