Growing up watching cartoons, it’s hard to imagine you could make a coyote’s life any harder than it already is. This 223 Rem cartridge by Black Hills would certainly do it, though.

This round is equipped with Hornady’s 40 grain V-MAX projectile. A V-MAX is built sort of like a powder keg. Its polymer tip extends deep down into its swaged lead core, leaving a little gap before it touches the bottom. This lets the tip build up serious energy before connecting with the core following impact, violently fragmenting the bullet inside of its target in the process.

The V-MAX is also built for accuracy. Its concentric jacket and uniform core keep the bullet balanced in flight, so its sharp polymer tip is always pointed forward. The streamlined V-MAX makes full use of its Mach 3 muzzle velocity to follow a flat trajectory way downrange.

Black Hills makes superlative AR-15 ammo for applications ranging from military sharpshooting to self-defense. This varmint load is no different with its virgin brass shell casing, trustworthy and non-corrosive primer, and charge of clean burning propellant that doesn’t vary round to round.
