Remington doesn’t make the MatchKing bullet. Sierra does, and they do it by creating an flawlessly (technically drawn to a ±0.0003” max variation standard) concentric copper jacket, giving it a sleek frontal and side profile, and filling it with molten lead that hardens to form a uniformly dispersed core.
The proof is in the pudding. Here is this 0.611 G1 BC round’s performance out of a 24” test barrel:
0yds: 2,750 fps | 2,351 ft lbs | -1.5”
100yds: 2,602 fps | 2,106 ft lbs | 4.4”
200yds: 2,460 fps | 1,881 ft lbs | 5.1”
300yds: 2,321 fps | 1,675 ft lbs | 0.0”
400yds: 2,187 fps | 1,488 ft lbs | -11.5”
500yds: 2,058 fps | 1,317 ft lbs | -30.3”
600yds: 1,933 fps | 1,162 ft lbs | -57.3”
The bullet isn’t designed for the application, but the MatchKing has precisely the effect you might imagine it should on small game. The thin-jacketed, non-expanding bullet fares far worse on larger game, for which it isn’t recommended.
