This cartridge features Nosler’s own round nose Solid Base projectile. It is a (tubular magazine-safe) soft point with a tapered jacket: thick toward the rear and super thin around the rim, thus facilitating reliably wide expansion even at the farther reaches of the 30-30’s effective range. The Solid Base bullet’s signature feature, which is an abnormally thick portion of jacket on its rear, (A) prevents deformation to the boat tail during ignition, and (B) serves as a sort of platform to force wider outward expansion after impact.
