Shoot it. Dress it. Eat it. Mount it. Remember it fondly. These are the things you’d like to do to wild game, and all you need is the right 300 Savage ammunition for the job. That’s why we say three cheers for Winchester, whose American-made Power-Shok ammo has proven itself up to any task for many decades.
This round is loaded with a 150 grain soft point – not the heaviest nor the most aerodynamically efficient bullet the 300 Sav can be loaded with, but deadly as pure sarin gas in the hands of a brainy marksman. The bullet’s 0.294 G1 BC and 2,630 fps muzzle velocity equal the following ballistic performance:
0yds: 2,630 fps | 2,304 ft lbs | -1.5”
100yds: 2,336 fps | 1,818 ft lbs | 2.5”
200yds: 2,062 fps | 1,416 ft lbs | 0.0”
300yds: 1,807 fps | 1,088 ft lbs | -10.7”
400yds: 1,577 fps | 828 ft lbs | -32.1”
500yds: 1,374 fps | 629 ft lbs | -67.5”
One could argue that the SP’s effective range for whitetail lies just beyond 300 yards, as that’s about the distance at which it enters triple-digit velocity territory. But we’re quite certain the Power-Point series projectile can do deadly things to deer farther beyond that. It expands rapidly, even at relatively low velocity, and also holds itself together quite nicely following impact at closer ranges. Truly an all-rounder, and loaded in a reloadable brass case to boot.
