The 300 Winchester Magnum is a great round if you want to hunt in open country where astonishingly long shots are possible. This round has a 190 grain open tip match. That’s a sharpshooter’s bullet for sure, with a concentric jacket and ballistically efficient boat tail base. This bullet terminates in an extremely narrow meplat with a tiny opening in its tip. That’s not there to promote terminal expansion – it proves this bullet’s lead alloy core hardened in place to seamlessly conform to its jacket’s contours.

This round’s sleek and stable bullet flies out of a muzzle at 2,850 fps, give or take depending on barrel length and atmospheric conditions. At that rate it establishes a 0.533 ballistic coefficient, so its velocity doesn’t transition to subsonic until around 1,350 yards. Impressive, and perfect if you’ve got your sights set on the coveted 1,000 yard target!
