When Remington first introduced the Core-Lokt bullet 80 years ago, they billed it as “the deadliest mushroom in the woods.” To be sure, unlike many deadly mushrooms you could probably eat a Core-Lokt and only suffer a couple chipped teeth and a little lead poisoning. But if you’re a deer or elk who has been shot with a Core-Lokt, on the other hand, then Remington’s claim certainly rings true.

This 308 Marlin Express cartridge features Remington’s classic 150 grain soft point bullet. The key to the Core-Lokt’s deadly terminal performance is no secret – its core is quite literally locked to its jacket, ensuring the two don’t detach before the bullet accesses a game animal’s vital organs. As the bullet’s tapered copper jacket peels back its soft lead core commences expansion to effectively double the Core-Lokt’s diameter. A wound channel well over half an inch wide is going to do the trick, no two ways about it!

This round has an 0.193 ballistic coefficient. It’s plenty accurate for hunting, and delivers 1,500 ft lbs of energy at 136 yards or 1,000 ft lbs at 236 yards. Whatever kind of game’s on your radar you’ll be sure to appreciate the reliable ignition of Remington’s carefully paired primer and propellant, as well as the old standard’s reloadable brass case.

Please note that this is not 308 Win ammunition.
