This round’s jacketed hollow point bullet is fully equipped to stop the threat, and designed to expand at low velocities. It just doesn’t recoil as fiercely as a +P load’s bullet, which means (A) more manageable recoil, and (B) compatibility with older, fragile, and/or alloy revolvers. The cartridge’s flash-suppressed propellant is especially helpful, as it can prevent you from getting blinded while you’re defending yourself in the dark.
Buffalo Bore records their ammo’s muzzle velocities using real firearms as opposed to nondistinct test barrels. Here are their findings for this cartridge:
• S&W Model 60, 2" barrel: 921 fps (235 ft lbs)
• S&W Model 66, 2.5" barrel: 938 fps (244 ft lbs)
• Ruger SP101, 3" barrel: 1,019 fps (288 ft lbs)
• S&W Model 629, 4" barrel: 1,078 fps (322 ft lbs)
