Look into the cold, dead eyes of a killer. You can tell from those stony eyes that the bear feels nothing but hatred and malice. And if you ever wind up on the wrong side of a bear’s murderous peepers, you’ll be glad you’re carrying a 44 Magnum full of HSM’s Bear Loads.

A conventional self-defense bullet isn’t suited to bear defense. That’s because a JHP is designed to widen out, thereby increasing the damage it does to its target before passing through it – or ideally avoiding over-penetration altogether. The “wide flat nose” bullet, on the other hand, is specifically designed not to expand. Instead it conserves its narrow (relatively speaking) diameter, which it uses to punch the deepest wound channel it’s able.

There’s zero question as to whether the WFN would pass through a human at close range. That’s not helpful. But since it penetrates so deeply, the WFN is just the bullet you want when you’re trying to kill a large, mean bear armored in so much fat and muscle.

The WFN’s gas check? It’s only there to promote more efficient ignition, which in turn helps the bullet jump out of the barrel faster. Kra-KOW! Not low recoil, that is for sure.
