The police haven’t got all that much use for 44 Magnum revolvers (with the exception of a few who serve and protect within the borders of bear country, we assume). But just to be sure, you are still getting LE quality when you chamber this civilian defense ammo!
This ammo’s not ideal for putting down great bears, anyway. That’s because its 230 grain jacketed hollow point is specifically designed to neutralize human attackers, and does so by expanding as fast as possible to (A) maximize trauma to the target, and (B) minimize risk to bystanders. (Needless to say, there’s always a risk of over-penetration, especially in the case of the 44 Mag.)
This round’s 801 ft lbs muzzle energy (out of a 4” revolver barrel) is massive to say the least. No threat can endure such a blow. That may be relatively weak compared to a dedicated hunting round (for context, a Hornady Backcountry Defense 44 Mag 300gr DGH load has 1,398 ft lbs muzzle energy out of the same barrel), but it does even more to lower this defense load’s odds of hitting anything other than its intended target.
