The HammerDown label represents what Federal and Henry Repeating Arms can do when they sit down together and create the ideal lever-action cartridge. These 45-70 Government rounds’ 300 grain bullets and 1,850 fps muzzle velocity are optimized to deliver superior in-flight and terminal ballistics, and their chamfered nickel-plated brass shell casings feed and eject like clockwork every time a rifle goes “tchik tchak.”

Federal outfitted this round with a hunting bullet in full. With its molecularly bonded jacket, it exhibits superior balance in flight for pinpoint long-distance trajectories. The bullet’s virtually inseparable jacket keeps it intact as it excavates a deep wound channel within its target. As it penetrates, the bullet’s soft lead core triggers wide mushrooming to do even greater damage in the process, delivering a quick, clean kill with little to no accompanying fragmentation. This round’s bullet of course sports a flat nose profile to prevent the occurrence of disastrous ignition in a tubular magazine.

This specialized lever-gun round’s streamlined bullet boasts an impressive .290 ballistic coefficient, making the 45-70’s trademark trajectory ever so slightly less lobbing. Federal’s state of the art Boxer primer makes this round both non-corrosive and perfectly reloadable, and their propellant burns clean to keep an antique more free of clogging residues.
