This is powerful 45-70 Government ammunition. It is +P – aka “overpressure” – and not intended for firearms that aren’t specifically designed to absorb its above-standard chamber pressure.

We can’t overemphasize just how powerful Grizzly’s Oregon-made 45-70 +P ammo really is. The cartridge’s HUGE 460 grain bullet and surprisingly hot 1,850 fps muzzle velocity give it a muzzle energy of 3,495 ft lbs. That outclasses the 30-06! We bill this as self-defense ammo, but we don’t recommend it for defense against normal threats. It’s for defense against America’s largest and most dangerous game!

The hard cast wide flat nose gas check projectile is certain to pass clean through a man-sized target. That’s because it’s not designed for terminal expansion, as it (A) is way too rigid to undergo any significant deformation, and (B) lacks any features that could have triggered expansion, such as a nose cavity. The hard cast WFNGC focuses all of its energy on achieving the deepest penetration possible – the reason why it’s able to reliably clear a path to a monster grizz’s heart.

What’s a “gas check?” Simply a disc of softer metal on the base of the bullet. It creates a seal against the bore so as to prevent propellant gasses from escaping around the base of the bullet, thus promoting more efficient ignition. It’s part of the reason why this round punches like an over-caffeinated gorilla.
