This ammo’s not just a hoot at the range, though. Underwood’s FMJ FN is designed to cut out a wide wound channel and keep its nose pointed forward as it tunnels through body mass. We typically abstain from recommending FMJ bullets for defense or hunting (as they’re unable to exhibit terminal expansion), though we have zero doubt as to whether this round could KO Brother Bear or Aunt Hog.
These rounds’ cases aren’t nickel plated, which is unusual for Underwood ammo, although the manufacturer’s famous low-flash propellant is present in full force. It produces a dim muzzle flash, so you can fire at dark without temporarily blinding yourself. Very useful, especially if you’re gunning down multiple hogs at once!
