Igman loads their ammunition in Konjic, a city in the Balkan nation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The modern manufacturer’s new production ammo features brass cases, non-corrosive Boxer primers, and steel-free jackets.

But this 5.56x45 ammo is still magnetic, because Igman loaded it according to our own military’s M855 specifications. This round’s 62 grain FMJ projectile is all copper alloy on the outside, with green paint on its tip to demonstrate what makes it special: the penetrator tip.

The M855 bullet’s core is not made of solid lead. It also includes a seven-grain steel tip, which makes the bullet a lot harder and accordingly better at piercing sheet metal. Under optimal conditions you can expect the M855 bullet to pierce a 1/8” thick steel plate at ranges up to 650 yards.
62 grains isn’t extremely heavy for a 5.56x45 projectile. Its greater weight gives it better downrange momentum with which to resist wind drift, but this ammo is going to give you the best accuracy out of your AR-15 if it has a barrel twist of 1:9 or 1:8. You’ll find that 1:7 is perfectly acceptable for close to medium range targets.

This ammo’s cases are annealed. The heat-treatment process makes brass more durable, and the discoloration it produces is solely cosmetic. Igman also seals their primers to protect their rounds while they’re kept in storage.
