First time ordering these. Pretty happy so far. No duds yet, shoots fine. A bit dirty but what else do you expect from old military surplus. The 150 grain is a pleasant round to shoot. I am shooting out of a Yugo M48. It feeds dine and ejects fine. As other reviews stated, the stripper clips can be a bit tight. I would buy this again.
I bought this on a recommendation from a co worker. I've shot plenty of other surplus ammo and this one was one of the better ones. I'm mainly writing this review because of luckygunners quick and awesome service. I found their website on a Google search and will be ordering my ammo from them again and again. Crazy fast shipping and they updated me every step of the way! Super happy with this site and their amazing deals!
Good, solid ammo.
I've shot about 120 rounds of my can and haven't had a single misfire.
This ammo really has some zing to it. A lot more power than domestic made stuff. My arm was sore after about 50 rds with my unforgiving Yugo steel butt plate stock. Might want to get a butt pad if you shoot a lot of this stuff.
Rounds chambered and ejected crisply.
Stripper clips are nice to have instead of feeding rounds in one at a time but they're old and very stiff. Sometimes you have to really wrench down on them to load them.
This can is HEAVY so be careful NOT to drop it from any significant height as even if you do not crush your toes with it the can may be deformed. I casually dropped it down on my carpeted floor from a few feet and it put a big bend in it.
My only real complaint is that this does NOT come with a can opener and no, the one in your kitchen drawer will not work on this.
You need to either have the special kind that are usually shipped with ammo tins (like they should always be!) or get creative with some tools you have at home. I maneged to get it open by making an initial puncture with a screw driver and a hammer then gradually peeling back the metal with a vice grip. Crude but it worked.
Be careful with how you leave the cut edges after opening as they will cut the **** out of your hand or feet if you bump into it as I almost did.
This is the best surplus 8mm Mauser you are going to find. Full power not like the current American loads available these days that are on the week side. Just be careful opening the can, I cut my finger on the rim not paying attention to the sharp edges. It's a little dirty when cleaning but that's what you expect with corrosive surplus ammo
Initial confusion turns out good!!
Initially I suspected the ammo to be faulty and failing to fire in my 8mm Mauser. Then I realized that I have had this rifle for 9 years and had never fired it since taking ownership. I did an initial cleaning and lube before going to the range. Multiple problems. Then I realized I didn't break the bolt down and remove the grease in all the nooks and crannies inside the bolt. This was preventing the proper movement and action of the bolt, spring and firing pin. That evening I broke the rifle down to the last part and found some hardened grease along the firing pin. Simple solvent removed it. Lubed it up and returned to the range. Every round fired as expected. Accuracy was much better than I had ever expected. The ammo from Lucky Gunner wasn't faulty, it was me. LOL. In the end, I will be ordering more of the 8mm surplus ammo. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Once again a good purchase from Lucky Gunner. I will admit it is a bit pricey , but all milsurp is going up everywhere it seems. Shoots great, accurate. On stripper clips. But it sure is dirty. I will buy again.....soon
I like it can't beat the price
I shoot a lot of 8mm Mauser love the round and love the gun. I have found this round to be hard hitting accurate and very reliable (NO duds). The rounds tend to stick a bit on the stripper clips but nothing a sledge hammer can't solve. Just kidding once you break the first round free the rest fall into place. I always look for this ammo and I always make sure I have a good stock of it on hand you should do the same.
I am taking my purchase to the range in the morning. I was very pleased with the price since the rounds came with strippers. I usually don't buy Berdan corrosive ammo but getting the strippers along with the great price was actually a great savings to me, and I needed some strippers. This price per round is pretty close to what I could reload rounds for target practice anyway. It is hard to find 8 mm strippers for a good price. Sealed in the spam can all the rounds looked good and I don't expect any issues. I even received a spam can opener with my order - other dealers won't supply the opener. Lucky Gunner always has good prices combined with quick shipping. i have made many purchases from them and have never been disappointed in any aspect of their service. I'll stress the point that the prices are great, the products good, and the shipping is quick. Even during the recent run on anything firearm related Lucky Gunner was able to ship in stock items right away as opposed to other dealers that took forever. I frequently recommend Lucky Gunner to other shooters. Lucky Gunner is where I first go for what I need.
I bought a spam can if this to try out in my military Mausers. This ammo performs well, no hang fires or duds. Ammo is well packaged, clean, and free of corrosion. My ammo was made in 1973, but it shoots like it was made yesterday. Get yourself some before it's all gone!
