It takes a lot of ammo to become proficient with a handgun, but it doesn’t have to take a lot of money. This 9mm cartridge by Red Army Standard hails from the Tula factory in Mother Russia, and as such it features a steel shell casing. By doing away with copper-laden brass you’ll shave a lot off of your ammo budget, but you won’t sacrifice smooth feeding -- Red Army Standard applies a special polymer coating to their casings to reduce friction in a semi-automatic weapon. The modern polymer is formulated not to burn off in the chamber during the heat of ignition.

This round sports a 115 grain projectile. Its rounded nose profile also facilitates interruption-free feeding, and it preserves a firearm’s accuracy by shielding the bore from the lead in its core. This cartridge has a non-corrosive Berdan primer that suits it for long-term storage, but that along with its steel casing pretty much precludes it from work at the reloading press.
