We test fired five rounds of .40 S&W (Smith & Wesson) Remington 180 gr Golden Saber into synthetic ballistic gelatin to observe its expansion and penetration characteristics. The ammo was fired from a Glock 27 pistol at a distance of 10 feet. A four-layer barrier of heavy fabric was placed in front of the gelatin to simulate clothing.
The complete data for this load from our test can be found on the chart below. The photo slider displays the expanded bullets that were retrieved from the gel. Pictured below is a high speed video that shows the bullet entering the gel at approximately 10,000 frames per second. The diagrams at the bottom of the page should give you an idea of how this load compares to other .40 S&W (Smith & Wesson) loads.

The Rodney Dangerfield of SD Ammunition. by JJMcDonald on 10/31/2017

Great JHP Practice Ammo
I bought 500 rounds of the non-bonded .40 S&W 180 grain JHP Golden Saber for $17 / 50 round LE box to use as practice ammo, as I'll now buy the Black Belt bonded version for carry ammo at $27 / 50 round LE box. Should be the same except the bonding, giving me a bargain practice ammo that except for jacket bonding is the same as my carry ammo.
The Rodney Dangerfield of SD Ammunition.
A few people have said before "There is no reason that this ammunition does not get the respect it deserves" The Remington Golden Saber in .40 and in 357 SIG are outstanding, with the .40 the overall winner of almost all SD ammunition. Truly a Rodney Dangerfield.
Probably the finest SD ammo for the .40 S&W
I have this in my EDC because it consistently replicates the tests Lucky Gunner had provided on Geletin and Denium. 13 to 15 inch penetration with expansion up to .80 caliber out of my SIG 239. This is exactly what I want in a SD weapon. I don't need to stop automobiles, or shoot through doors or barriers. As I am no longer a LEO, my shots will have to be Line of Sight, up to 20 yds and in a self defense mode. For that, this is the perfect combination.
I bought this for my carry gun and wanted to test to make sure my gun liked it. I ran a box through the gun (S&W M&P .40c) at the range. Recoil was the same as the 165gr I shoot for practice. Groups with the golden saber were much tighter! This ammo cycled beautifully through my gun.
This was my first order through LGR, and I have to say, I was very please with their performance. Honestly, I was expecting a letter saying that the product I ordered was on back order, or something like that. I can't believe I got such a great deal on the ammo and the shipping. Speaking of which, my order arrived one day earlier than I had expected, which would have been fast anyway.
I will absolutely be doing business with you again. In fact, I'm ordering a second round of the same thing right after I'm done with this review!
Good Ammo! I have a Ruger P94 in .40 S&W. I also have a Ruger PC-4 in .40 S&W. I use the pre-bam 11-round mags for both. Somewhere I received 4 10-round mags. I ordered this ammo for those mags and squirrelled them away for a rainy day. I have used Remington Golden Saber in other firearms and I never had any problems with it.
I give the rating & purchase a 4.67 out of 5!
I found the quality to be top notch. Performance was great too.
I only gave it a 4 star rate under value because I think all ammo is terribly priced nowadays.
And although it is priced too high, it was good price considering all the other places to buy
at this particular point in time.
I used these 40 S&Ws in my Walther PPS 40 & they ran really smoothly.
Service & shipping out was really good - got them in a timely manner.
Thank you Lucky Gunner & God bless!
Great quality & I received it fast!
I needed some 40 cal ammo and none of the gun stores in my area had any in stock when I went to buy. They told me my best bet would be to order off the Internet. So I searched around & came across Lucky Gunner. They said they had fast service w/o all of the normal BS "processing time" that you find when making most purchases via the Internet. It seems like they packaged my product and sent it as soon as they received my order because within 72 hrs after placing my order, it was sitting on my doorstep when I came home from work. The price was better than others as well. I will be buying from Lucky Gunner in the future.
My New SHTF Round
My previous favorite was Remington Express, but the Golden Sabers bring a more modern design into play. These are jacked-bonded, and in my testing the jackets hold tight to the lead core. I get a nice symmetrical "6-claw" expansion and good penetration with the 180gr out of my 4.25" H&K USP. (I'd recommend the 155gr if you have a shorter than 4" barrel.)
For what it's worth, the new Rem. Home Defense round seems to be a very similar design, but they are not bonded, so there is jacket/core separation. Advantage: Golden Saber.
No problems encountered
Bought one box to use as HD ammo, to keep in my H&K USP 40, while at home. Test fired few rounds at the range and it works very well. H&K is the bigger part of this equation, it handle any kind of ammo without any problems.
As far as finding ammo, getting it ordered and delivered in a very short time, there is none better than L/G. I don't bother trying to find ammo locally, its a waste of time most of the time.
One of the best
Used this in just about every popular caliber, Never any problems, Feeds well in just about any gun.
If your weapon jams on this stuff, its the gun. One of the ones you can bet your life on when the ---- hits the fan
Quality ammo from bullet to case and everywhere in between.
Remington has had me sold on their Golden Saber for years. I've used it both on and off duty as a 20+ year law enforcement veteran. Not only is it reliable and considered match grade, but more importantly in these uncertain times it's got a very important mil spec feature for those of us that may ever need to use it under less than desirable conditions (climate/weather as well as location).
With primer and mouth waterproofing you don't have much to worry about for longer term storage, having to shoot in the rain or a damp environment.
Short of military issue FMJ this ammo does it all.
