Actually, lovingly set it aside someplace safe, because it’s still good stuff. You’ll just be too excited by Rio’s Royal Star series 1-1/8 ounce rifled slug ammo to think about anything else for a while.
This shell’s slug is heavy. It moves s-l-o-w (relatively speaking, because almost 300 fps faster than the speed of sound is pretty fast in our book). Trajectory drops off steeper as a result. But the plus side? Deeper penetration through the quarry, and improved resistance to wind deflection to boot!
The slug’s rifling merely means it’s for smoothbores. Its hollow point nose cavity, however, means it’s a viable choice for hunting all kinds of medium game. Deer. Hog. Black bear. That whole scene.
This shell is loaded with collapsible plastic wad to help soak up recoil. It’s by no means a “low-recoil shell,” as evinced by its healthy 4 dram equivalent, but it could have kicked worse if Rio had put a lesser felt wad in there!
