The Union Metallic Cartridge Company, or UMC, was founded in 1867, and was acquired by Remington 1912. UMC's current production plant is in Lonoke, Arkansas, and was built in 1970 when DuPont owned Remington. The Remington UMC ammo I test was their 55 grain metal case load. Metal case is another way of saying full metal jacket. This ammo features a copper jacket and a lead core which will not attract a magnet and is acceptable at any range that allows centerfire rifles.
It is loaded with a brass case and a non-corrosive boxer primer. The case is reloadable, and Remington makes great brass for reloading.
This ammo functioned perfectly in all of the test rifles. Recoil was manageable, which came in handy for rapid fire shooting. I also chronographed it in several different rifles, and it was loaded to proper velocities for a 55 grain 223 Remington. At 50 yards from the bench, accuracy was quite good as you can see from this ten shot group.
This Remington UMC ammo is a good example of how quality American manufacturing still exists. It's a great choice for any range or training use.
