Video Transcript:
American Eagle ammo is one of the most popular brands for the Federal Ammunition Company. Federal is owned by the US-based ATK and the parent company of lots of other respected ammo brands like CCI and Speer. The Federal American Eagle brand is well-known for high performance at a modest cost.
The load we're looking at today is American Eagle's 125 grain 357 SIG. It has a reloadable brass case with a Federal head stamp. Primers are non-corrosive and the bullet is a lead core with a copper full metal jacket.
We used four handguns to check this ammo for function and performance. Most pistols chambered in this caliber are almost identical to the .0 Smith & Wesson versions, so we used three 40 caliber handguns with original factory-made 357 SIG barrels. The Springfield XD came from the factory chambered in 357 SIG.
Each of the four handguns functioned well with this ammo. There were no feeding problems or stoppages, and no ignition issues either. Recoil was right on par with most 357 SIG ammo, which tends to kick just a little more than 40 Smith & Wesson.
We ran our accuracy test at 15 yards using a SIG P226 on a benchrest. There was one flyer that hit right dead center at the point of aim. The other nine rounds formed a 2 inch pattern to the left and a little low. With some slight adjustment to the sites, this kind of accuracy would be consistent enough for just about any everyday range application.
American Eagle is always a solid choice for training at the range, and this 357 SIG load is no exception. It offers consistent performance and reliability along with quality reloadable brass, all at a moderate cost.
