This .380 ACP ammunition from G2 Research fires the new "Radically Invasive Projectile," which is pre-fragmented into seven multiple shards ("trocars") designed to spread up to 3 or 4 inches from the point of impact and incapacitate an assailant quickly.

Each cartridge in this box of 20 fires a 62 grain projectile at 1,250 feet per second, considerably above-average for the .380. This helps increase both penetration (between 9 and 11 inches, according to G2) and fragmentation over slower-moving projectiles.

RIP rounds are made of solid machined copper and contain no lead. They're American-made and use non-corrosive Boxer primers and brass cases.

Ballistics Test Summary

In order to find out how different self-defense handgun loads perform, we decided to do some ballistics gelatin testing of our own. The chart below is a compilation of expansion and penetration data for G2 Research 62 gr RIP fired from 10 feet, through four layers of fabric (to simulate clothing), using a Glock 42 pistol.

The photo slider provides a close-up view of the bullets we recovered from the gelatin, and the video shows this load entering the gel in extreme slow motion.

The diagrams at the bottom of the page can give you an idea of how this load compares to other .380 Auto (ACP) self-defense loads that we tested.
