Look no further than Federal's XM193 ammo for the quality that you have come to expect from Federal at a very competitive price. Newly manufactured by Federal at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP), this product is excellent for target practice and tactical exercises.

Each round is brass-cased, boxer-primed, non-corrosive, and reloadable. It is both economical and precision manufactured in the United States by an established U.S. cartridge producer. These cartridges are extremely reliable and are tested to work properly between -40 to +125 degrees Fahrenheit.

The XM193 bullets sport a boat-tailed design for improved long-range accuracy and ballistics performance. This projectile has a lead core, copper jacket, and is non-magnetic. These rounds feature a water resistant lacquer applied to seal the primer and case mouth.

XM193 ammunition is loaded for the Federal Cartridge Company at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, where almost all of the small arms ammunition used by America's armed forces is manufactured.

I was able to test this XM193 ammo in a variety of semi auto rifles. I encountered no malfunctions of any kind. This is extremely dependable ammunition. You might have heard that the X in XM193 means that this ammo is factory seconds, but that's not true.

This is first run, top quality ammunition that is offered in a few different varieties of packaging, one of which is a box of 100 rounds. The rounds are arranged nicely inside, giving you the option of pulling a few rounds out at a time or dumping some out and quickly loading a 30 round magazine.

Because all ammo produced at the Lake City plant is held to high standards, XM193 ammo has some features that other commercial ammo doesn't. For example, it has a crimped primer, which has a positive effect on reliability. It also has sealant on both the case mouth and the primer. These features mean that moisture is less likely to damage the ammunition during storage. The bullet has a cannelure and the case mouth is crimped, meaning that the bullet will stay in place until it is fired, and not be shoved into the case during handling. Also, the ammunition is tested to function from negative 40 to 125 degrees fahrenheit.

XM193 has a 55 grain full metal jacket boat tail projectile. The jacket is copper and the core is lead, so it won't attract a magnet. The boat tail profile helps maintain a flatter trajectory and resists wind drift at longer ranges. You can use this ammo with any twist rate that is common for semi-auto 5.56mm rifles. However, you should not use it in rifles with a .223 Remington chamber. If you're not sure what your rifle has, check the barrel for a stamp or marking that identifies the chamber.

Ammo produced at the Lake City plant retains visible signs of annealing. It might look like unwanted discoloration, but it isn't. Annealing is a heat treating process which helps prevent problems with the brass case such as cracks. The military requires that the evidence of this process be left on the case, so that verification that it has been completed is quick and easy.

I chronographed this ammo in AR-15s with 16 inch and 20 inch barrels. It's loaded to high velocities. I also tested it for accuracy and precision. This isn't match ammo, but it's more than accurate enough for serious training.

XM193 is the quintessential AR-15 ammo. It's made to military standards, but produced for the commercial market and is readily available at affordable prices. If you have a 5.56mm rifle such as an AR-15, and need some ammunition, you should definitely take a look at XM193.

These rounds are very consistant quality and leave very little residue. I would recomend these to all AR-15 owners. The fact that they contain no steel makes them acceptable for shooting at my local range is also a plus. The cost is a bit higher that I would prefer to pay, but well worth the money. This ammo (considered inhumane during the Vietnam war) does not have the penetration of the 62 gr steel penetrators, but they have better hydrostatic shock, and are easily capable of dropping a deer (if your state allows that small of ammo for such purposes).
