And here it is. This Federal Law Enforcement Tactical shell is loaded with a 1 ounce Hydra-Shok slug. It’s rifled for compatibility with a smoothbore shotgun. It ends in a hollow point nose cavity, which enables it to expand inside the threat (and ideally stay inside of the threat, so it can’t pose danger to innocent bystanders). And because it weighs 1 ounce (instead of 1-1/8 or 1-1/4 ounces, like many hunting shells are loaded with) and has a 1,300 fps muzzle velocity (out of a 30” barrel), the Hydra-Shok will go easy on you in terms of recoil. Chief benefit? Less muzzle flip, which in turn will help you fire faster, more accurately, and with greater confidence.
This shell’s reported G1 BC is 0.070. That enables us to estimate the following ballistic performance:
0yds: 1,300 fps | 1,642 ft lbs | -0.5”
25yds: 1,144 fps | 1,273 ft lbs | 0.6”
50yds: 1,038 fps | 1,048 ft lbs | 0.0”
75yds: 964 fps | 903 ft lbs | -2.6”
100yds: 907 fps | 799 ft lbs | -7.5
