Boy, are we ever glad we aren’t pheasants, and not just because we don’t want to eat insects and weed seeds. We also don’t want to have to worry about a hunter with a Federal Prairie Storm FS Lead 12 Gauge shotshell in his gun’s chamber!
This shotshell’s 1-1/4 ounce charge of #4 shot is actually made up of two different kinds of #4 shot. It is 30% FliteStopper shot pellets, which aren’t totally spherical. Each FliteStopper pellet has a raised edge around its middle, which slices through feathers and hacks a wider, more injurious hole into its target. The remainder of the shot column is Federal’s standard copper-plated lead pellets. These are hard enough to remain spherical during ignition to improve pattern density, as well as penetrate deeply into even the toughest birds.
Federal’s FliteControl Flex wad makes this shell even more lethal by tightening up its pattern density. The petals surrounding the wad’s base create an efficient gas seal throughout ignition. They stick out even further upon expulsion, which briefly traps the shot pellets before allowing them to proceed forward in a narrow, efficient pattern.
This is a hot and heavy shell. Its 1,500 fps muzzle velocity makes it considerably easier to take a bird on the wing, and also transfers superior kinetic energy to the quarry on impact.
