Steel. It is a metal that can be used to fabricate all kinds of useful things. Monster trucks. Rocket launchers. Rocket trucks. All of these great technological achievements share steel in common.

As luck would have it, steel is also perfect for making nontoxic birdshot. That is just what you’ll find in an 12 Gauge Upland Steel hunting shell by Federal Premium!

This shell is loaded with an ounce of #7.5 steel shot. It lets you hunt wherever lead projectiles are banned – perfect for taking dove and quail around protected waterways. In addition to being nontoxic, steel is also much harder than lead. It avoids significant deformation as it is rapidly accelerated to a high velocity. That comes in very handy for this particular shell, which positively blasts its shot to a muzzle velocity of 1,330 fps. The steel shot pellets stay round and aerodynamic so they can pattern tightly downrange, and their high velocity helps to make up for for steel’s lower density than lead (8 g/cc vs. 11 g/cc).

This shell boasts yet another impressive eco-friendly feature: a paper wad! A little dose of damp weather will turn the cup into soggy mush. And if you decide to pocket this Minnesota-made ammo’s reloadable hulls, you’ll leave your favorite hunting grounds exactly as you’ve left them (albeit with fewer birds).
