Do you want to tighten up your slug game with the assistance of steel targets? You would be right to worry about splash-back. An ounce of lead, striking a slab of AR500 steel at supersonic velocity, is prone to send little flecks of dangerous lead back at its shooter. Good way to sour the rest of your day right there.

Federal designs this 12 Gauge shotgun ammo to take the sting out of tactical training. These shells’ slugs are made out of copper and tin powders which have been sintered into a solid mass. As soon as one of these slugs hits a hard surface it bursts apart into dust and tiny, harmless fragments. Splash-back is essentially done away with when you train with Reduced Hazard Training ammo.

These slugs are lightweight at 3/4 ounces because they contain zero lead. That’s by design – lead is toxic, as you know, so this frangible slug helps to keep your oxygen noncarcinogenic just the way you like it.

We’re often asked if frangible ammo is good for home defense. Sure is! No living thing is going to be better off once you’ve shot it with this slug, and its tendency to disintegrate does indeed reduce the chance of blasting through multiple walls. There’s no guarantee it won’t penetrate your target and a couple sheets of gypsum, however, so still take all due care if you load this ammo for personal protection.
