A shotgun is only as good as the person who’s holding it. If you would like to sharpen up your skill at the range – while drastically reducing your chance of falling victim to splash-back, and without breathing in lead vapor – then Federal BallistiClean Reduced Hazard Training (RHT) 12 Gauge ammunition makes quite the worthy investment.

This shell is loaded with a 325 grain (0.74 ounce) frangible slug. The lightweight slug is able to clear a 30” barrel at a velocity of 1,600 fps, which gives it comparable recoil to a more conventional 12 Gauge slug load. The slug dumps over 1,800 ft lbs of energy into a target at extremely close range – commanding, by personal defense standards.

The RHT slug is made of compressed copper and tin particles. The second a frangible projectile connects with a surface harder than itself, it disintegrates into small fragments. These crumbles are too light to deflect back at the firing line, which makes this ammo ideal for training with steel targets. Frangible slugs do pose a lower risk of overpenetration that could threaten innocent bystanders, but take caution: this ammo’s projectiles are still capable of passing through a human-sized target or several sheets of drywall.

This ammo’s frangible slugs are paired with Federal’s proprietary Catalyst primers, which are similarly lead-free. Neither ignition nor impact will produce airborne lead particles, so you can breathe healthier while you’re training at indoor ranges!
