If you have heard of Barnes before, it is probably because you already encountered their premium solid copper hunting bullets. But the Utah-based company certainly knows their shotshells, too, as evidenced by their premium Defense Buckshot loads!
This 12 Gauge shell is no pantywaist by any stretch of the imagination. Its eight pellets of 00 buckshot weigh nearly one ounce combined and strike a close-range target with over 1,200 ft lbs of collective kinetic energy. A direct hit will spell lights out for any human-sized threat. But this round’s relatively lighter shot column and comparatively tamer muzzle velocity both contribute to its slightly gentler recoil – a great advantage, if you don’t wish to fight against muzzle flip while you’re attempting to halt an attacker’s advance!
