This shell is loaded with nine balls of #1 buckshot. They are nickel plated, which protects them against flattening out during ignition and exhibiting a wider, less effective pattern as a result. Nickel plating also enables the pellets to stay rounder following impact, which facilitates deeper, more effective penetration.
This shell’s muzzle velocity is pretty low at 1,150 fps. Whereas a single-aught pellet traveling at 1,500 fps has striking energy of 202 ft lbs, the same pellet traveling at 1,100 fps only has striking energy of 109 ft lbs. But here’s the thing: if you land all nine of this shell’s pellets on a target at close range, you’re still talking about 850+ ft lbs of striking energy, which is more than enough to neutralize a threat. And thanks to this shell’s significantly lower recoil energy, you’re going to experience less muzzle rise with each shot fired – the reason why this ammo makes it substantially easier to fire rapidly yet accurately.
This ammo may not cycle semi-automatic firearms.
