Hunting with nontoxic shot typically means using steel. But at 8 g/cc, steel’s density is significantly lower than lead’s 11 g/cc density. That’s why steel shot pellets tend to lose their momentum at a noticeably faster rate.

Fortunately you have another option when it comes to nontoxic 12 Gauge ammo. Federal loads this versatile waterfowl and upland game hunting shell with 1-3/8 ounces of #3 bismuth shot. Bismuth is just as nontoxic as steel, but at 9.6 g/cc its density is much closer to good old-fashioned lead! (Better yet, bismuth is a great deal easier on the wallet than tungsten.)

But this shell doesn’t rely on its dense shot alone to deliver massive takedown power. Its 1,450 fps muzzle velocity gives its shot an impressive effective range, and its FliteControl Flex wad promotes an extremely efficient pattern so you can land more pellets on target.

Bismuth shot is not nearly as hard as steel, so it is perfectly safe for all shotguns including antiques. Federal’s high-performance primers cannot deposit corrosive residues inside the barrel or action, and their powder charges are always consistently loaded. Made in Minnesota!
