Silent but deadly. These words apply to Eley Subsonic 22 LR ammunition much better than … that other thing. This British-made ammo is perfect for taking care of a little backyard target practice when you don’t want to annoy the neighbors too much, and it’s equipped to drop a rodent as well!

Eley adorns this round with a 40 grain bullet. That’s the average weight for a 22 LR bullet, which means they ensure the cartridge’s subsonic 1,040 fps muzzle velocity (out of a rifle barrel) by loading a weaker than usual propellant charge. The cartridge can’t make a cracking report because it can’t break the sound barrier, but take care – lower-velocity ammo like this may fail to cycle a semi-automatic pistol or rifle.

This round’s not all that powerful, as you might imagine, but its hollow point bullet will expand somewhat if it strikes an animal at close range. The LHP bullet is treated with a non-greasy hydrocarbon lubricant to smooth out feeding, as well as promote more reliable performance in colder weather.

This brass-cased and non-corrosive 22 LR ammo is primed with Eley’s own rimfire primers. You may notice that Eley’s primers have a distinct smell once ignited!
