The ELD-X makes mincemeat of frontal air resistance. Its Heat Shield polymer tip is doubly designed to improve drag uniformity and decrease dispersion, and it keeps its precision meplat undeformed in the face of brutal air friction. The ELD-X additionally features Hornady’s ultra-concentric AMP jacket, as well as their secant ogive jacket profile and optimized boat tail. All together, these elements add up to grant the 145 grain ELD-X a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.536 (wow!), which represents this performance out of a 24” barrel:
0yds: 2,890 fps | 2,690 ft lbs | -1.5”
100yds: 2,717 fps | 2,377 ft lbs | 1.6”
200yds: 2,550 fps | 2,095 ft lbs | 0.0”
300yds: 2,390 fps | 1,839 ft lbs | -7.0”
400yds: 2,235 fps | 1,609 ft lbs | -20.0”
500yds: 2,086 fps | 1,401 ft lbs | -40.1”
And the ELD-X just keeps going – literally, because its jacket and core are mechanically locked together to ensure at least 50% weight retention within 400 yards and 85% weight retention beyond. The ELD-X’s tapered copper jacket, lead core’s nose cavity, and rigid tip all team up to combine deep penetration with massive expansion. That’s the dreaded one-two as far as any deer is concerned!
