Federal Premium was on top of the world when they rolled out their Fusion series ammunition. “WOW!” all their employees said. “Hunters sure do seem to appreciate the Fusion soft point bullet, which uses its alloyed lead core and electrochemically bonded jacket to secure high weight retention and effectively deep penetration! But wait a minute … what if we took that bullet … and made it even better?

And that’s exactly what they did. This Fusion Tipped 270 Win deer load proves it!

This round’s 150 grain bullet has still got its predecessor’s tough bonded jacket. As you have already ingeniously deduced, it also has a polymer tip – a feature which streamlines it, thereby enabling it to conserve more velocity. It flies flatter, as it covers the same amount of ground in less time than a soft point. It also carries more kinetic energy downrange, which it converts into rapid positive expansion by the grace of its rigid tip and skived nose cavity.

We love ballistic data! Here’s this cartridge’s, noting that Federal recorded the round’s muzzle velocity and 0.495 G1 BC with the aid of their trusty 24” test barrel:
0yds: 2,850 fps | 2,706 ft lbs | -1.5”
100yds: 2,664 fps | 2,365 ft lbs | 1.7”
200yds: 2,487 fps | 2,060 ft lbs | -0.0”
300yds: 2,315 fps | 1,786 ft lbs | -7.4”
400yds: 2,151 fps | 1,541 ft lbs | -21.2”
500yds: 1,993 fps | 1,324 ft lbs | -42.6”
