We are at a crossroads. Do we introduce Hornady Superformance 30-06 Springfield ammo by pointing out how it is turbocharged? Or do we praise its high-tech lead-free hunting bullet? Guess we’ll just have to do both!

“Superformance” isn’t just a flashy moniker. It denotes this round’s special propellant, which produces an average muzzle velocity 80 fps higher than Hornady’s other 150 grain 30-06 hunting ammo. That extra boost pushes the bullet across a flatter trajectory and helps it hit harder: two welcome advantages while you’re contending against your next trophy.

The CX is a leadless bullet: monometal, though it’s a lot more than nontoxic. The inherent sturdiness of copper prevents the CX from shedding more than one-twentieth of its weight after striking. That enables the CX to couple deep penetration with great expansion. The CX is also an accurate little piece of lead-free ballistic hardware, being equipped with optimum groove geometry and a Heat Shield tip featuring Drag Variability Reduction Technology.

Hornady records 30-06 muzzle velocity with a 24” test barrel. They report this round’s G1 BC at 0.418. Without further adieu, here is our projected ballistic performance for this round (noting that variation is always a constant):
