This round’s bullet is a real heavy hitter. It’s not a “ballistic tip” in the sense that it has a polymer tip. It’s actually Nosler’s own trademarked “Ballistic Tip,” which features a streamlined meplat and thick, deformation-resistant jacketed base to improve accuracy, plus a tapered jacket and special lead-alloy core which deliver massive expansion – even at subsonic impact velocities.
This round’s propellant achieves amazing feats. Complete powder burn in a barrel as short as 7.5”? Check. Reduced fouling, recoil, and noise as a result? Check, check, check! The powder lobs that big, heavy bullet at a velocity of 1,080 fps out of a 8.5” barrel. If your barrel is 10.5”, expect 1,111 fps muzzle velocity; 16.0”, 1,126 fps (which does technically qualify as supersonic).
