Calling the Hornady InterLock a “soft point” is like calling the Lamborghini Countach a “car” – true, but a gross understatement. It is a highly engineered bullet, with a jacket that is embedded within its core in two separate places – cannelure, and InterLock ring – to prevent core/jacket separation and deepen penetration. The tip of the InterLock jacket is thin, and grooved, and splits open quickly with little energy to force it. The InterLock is an accurate little force of nature as well, with the secant ogive profile that Hornady has spent years perfecting and proving.
Thank you, Hornady, for disclosing this cartridge’s G1 BC (0.452) and muzzle velocity out of a 24” barrel (2,960 fps). Those figures allow us to generate the following thought-provoking ballistic data:
0yds: 2,960 fps | 3,502 ft lbs | -1.5”
100yds: 2,752 fps | 3,028 ft lbs | 3.9”
200yds: 2,554 fps | 2,607 ft lbs | 4.6”
300yds: 2,364 fps | 2,234 ft lbs | 0.0”
400yds: 2,182 fps | 1,904 ft lbs | -10.8”
500yds: 2,009 fps | 1,613 ft lbs | -29.0”
