This 308 Win round is from Federal, and its components’ pervasive high quality demonstrate why their manufacturer’s name has become such a trusted one in the hunting world. Federal spends incredible effort making their brass casings as identical to one another as possible, so each of these rounds seats its bullet perfectly, carries an interchangeable propellant charge, and spits out of a rifle with zero trouble. Federal’s primer is sensitive and non-corrosive, so you can count on it to deliver flawless ignition in a week or ten years from now.

Barnes’ 150 grain TSX projectile is what makes this round really shine, though. The bullet’s long nose cavity results in accordingly wide expansion, and because it is made entirely of copper it’s able to penetrate deeply while losing almost none of its weight. The TSX delivers excellent accuracy thanks to its grooved shank and virtually perfectly uniform density, and the fouling it leaves behind in the bore is nearly negligible over the course of a hunt. Even if you don’t hunt in California, the merits of a copper bullet ought not to be overlooked.
