Federal had a big hit on their hands when they introduced their Fusion line of ammunition featuring bonded soft point bullets. “But hey,” one of Federal’s wiser staff members must have said soon after. “What if we loaded Fusion ammo with an even better bullet?” And thus Federal Fusion Tipped was born!

This round’s bullet sure knows how to penetrate a deer. Its jacket is bonded, thus preventing it from breaking apart from the core – and causing the bullet to lose momentum as a result. It’s also heavy at 180 grains, so it has a lot of momentum to retain. The Fusion Tipped bullet also features a tip, as you may have already guessed, which smashes into its skived nose cavity to initiate BIG expansion.

And that tip? It also makes the bullet more aerodynamic than a soft point. The Fusion Tipped needles through the air more efficiently, and showcases increased wind resistant, flatter trajectory, and higher striking energy because of it.

We enjoy doing math here at Lucky Gunner, but only when it’s the kind of math we can do using a calculator. That’s why we prepared the following 200-yard zero ballistic data, noting that Federal reports 0.501 G1 BC and uses a 24” test barrel for 308 Win:
0yds: 2,600 fps | 2,702 ft lbs | -1.5”
100yds: 2,426 fps | 2,353 ft lbs | 2.2”
200yds: 2,260 fps | 2,041 ft lbs | 0.0”
300yds: 2,099 fps | 1,762 ft lbs | -9.0”
400yds: 1,946 fps | 1,513 ft lbs | -26.0”
500yds: 1,800 fps | 1,294 ft lbs | -52.1”
