The TAC-XP gains better accuracy and terminal ballistics by virtue of being monometal. A lead-free bullet quite naturally prevents lead fouling (although it must be noted that this ammo’s primers aren’t also lead-free). A cleaner bore equals more reliable accuracy, which has never been unwanted during a defensive shooting. And because copper is tougher than any combination of lead and copper can be, it resists breaking apart and shedding the momentum it needs to jam itself deeply into the threat.
The TAC-XP’s deep nose cavity doesn’t trigger expansion in the traditional fashion. Instead of mushrooming, the bullet extends six flat, angular petals which devastate whichever soft tissues they rake against.
Doubletap’s low-flash propellant is a welcome addition to any self-defense ammo. It minimizes muzzle flash that might otherwise have temporarily blinded a shooter whose eyes are acclimated to darkness. (Note: the advertised muzzle velocity and energy were taken with a 6” test barrel; a 3” barrel produces 1,300 fps MV and 225 ME.)
